Helping Shelter To Soldier In Their Mission: Saving Lives, Two at a Time™

The Barnes Firm officially announced a $45,000 donation to the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Shelter to Soldier. Shelter to Soldier adopts dogs from California shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs. These dogs are specifically trained to aid post-9/11 combat veterans who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and/or other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences.

“This donation is a very impactful moment for all of us at The Barnes Firm, especially in light of all that is happening in our country and the world,” said Richard Barnes, President, The Barnes Firm. “Our amazing team of attorneys and professional staff is thrilled to step up for a cause like this, and we look forward to watching the training process unfold over the coming months. As a dog lover and supporter of our military service members, I’m personally excited to meet the selected dogs and veterans that this contribution will positively impact.”

Why Shelter To Soldier?

Helping Our Communities

The Barnes Firm wants your community to succeed. After all, our team lives in these same communities and we all want to make them the BEST they can be. For our top injury lawyers, that not only means helping accident victims get the best results possible; it also means giving back to the neighborhoods we serve. It’s The Barnes Firm’s goal to help those who have suffered get their lives back. With the support of charities like Shelter to Soldier, many families will have that opportunity.

Lifelong Dog Lovers

We are all dog friends at The Barnes Firm. Lead attorney Rich Barnes has been a lifelong dog lover, and enjoys spending his free time with his best friend, Vito. The experiences families share with their pets are special, and The Barnes Firm’s best injury lawyers believe every dog deserves a good home. When you adopt a dog from Shelter to Soldier, it will not only improve a veteran’s quality of life – it will improve that dog’s life too. And we believe every dog deserves a happy one.

We Support America’s Veterans

Helping veterans is a cause very near and dear to The Barnes Firm’s best injury lawyers. The firm was founded by attorney Rich Barnes’ brother, Steve Barnes (1958-2020), a United States Marine Corps combat veteran who served our country in the Gulf War. The Barnes brothers’ father fought in World War II, so the siblings understood from an early age the importance of service, and the sacrifices made by every soldier. The Barnes Firm’s best attorneys believe it’s our duty to give back to these heroes and help them live the best life possible.

The Dogs

Every dollar donated to Shelter to Solider helps fulfill a mission: to rescue a dog from a shelter and pair them with a veteran in need. Our best injury lawyers are proud to help accomplish this mission and rescue dogs that are best suited for a life with purpose. Every time you adopt a dog through Shelter to Soldier, that dog will get the support, medical care and housing they need over the course of a 12 to 18 month training program. Additionally, each veteran will receive training to help their new companion become a best friend.

The Veterans

Our commitment to Shelter to Soldier will help improve lives, two at a time. Not only will a shelter dog find a caring home; post-9/11 veterans will also be paired with a loyal, trained service dog. These veterans fought for our freedoms, and came home with a number of physical and psychological injuries, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences. Post 9/11 veterans can apply to be paired with a rescued service dog at sheltertosoldier.org/apply

Statistics

  • Recent estimates suggest that an average of 20 veterans lose their lives to suicide nearly every day in the United States, and in 2018 alone, over 6,300 veterans took their lives.
  • Roughly 1,800 dogs are euthanized on a daily basis nationwide.
  • Shelter to Soldier is committed to making an impact on these devastating statistics by providing hope through the companionship of a psychiatric service dog who provides non-judgmental, 24/7 support and motivation to veterans otherwise debilitated by mental illness, and The Barnes Firm is committed to helping them fulfill this mission.
