SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A horrific accident sent a passenger to the hospital after a metal bar fell off a semi-truck, bounced off the freeway pavement and pierced the front of a trailing Chevy Impala, impaling the right leg of the car’s front seat passenger.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol said a metal pole was dislodged from the truck around 10:05 a.m. Saturday morning on State Route 99 in Sacramento.
“The metal bar then bounced up and entered the right front of the Chevy, traveled through the engine compartment and entered the passenger compartment of the Chevy and impaled the right leg of the right front passenger,” CHP stated in a Facebook post.
Officers said the big rig failed to stop and continued traveling northbound on SR-99. The passenger, whose leg was injured in the accident, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Any witnesses to the accident were urged to contact CHP to help identify the runaway semi-truck.
Need For Investigation
Any motor vehicle accidents with injuries need an immediate investigation, which can help those who were injured in the accident, a Northern California truck accident lawyer said.
Although rare, accidents like the one that happened on State Route 99 in Sacramento do happen. In fact, this is the second time in the past two weeks that a sharp and potentially lethal object has fallen off a truck and impaled the vehicle behind it.
The other incident happened in Georgia on October 22nd, when logs fell from a logging truck and smashed through the windshield of a car. Thankfully, in both of these accidents, the drivers and their passengers weren’t killed.
An extensive legal investigation could help victims of accidents like these identify the people and companies responsible, and hold them accountable for any negligence. In addition, a thorough legal investigation can gather evidence that will support a victim’s claim and help them get compensation for many costs associated with an accident including:
- Medical Bills
- Lost Wages
- Transportation Costs
- Future Medical Treatments
- Pain & Suffering
- And More
