This typically affects one or two of every 1,000 babies, and children born with Erb’s Palsy can be partially or completely paralyzed. It is most often caused by shoulder dystocia, which occurs when a baby’s shoulders get lodged behind their mother’s pubic bone during delivery.
Doctors are usually prepared for this, and make the necessary adjustments to avoid serious injury. However, some doctors have used excessive force during these difficult deliveries, resulting in an injury to the brachial plexus nerves.
